I do two types of school visits; author talks and creative writing workshops. The author talks go down particularly well with Years 7 – 11. I speak to group sizes from single tutor groups to whole year groups and bring with me examples of manuscripts in various stages of development. Depending upon the length of the school lessons, the talks can last between 1 hour and 1¼ hours.
The creative writing workshops are aimed at small groups of students who have been taken off timetable. They are appropriate for any age from Year 6 up to GCSE level. The aim of the workshops is to encourage students to:
unlock their imagination
expand their language
develop characters
discover their own writing style
The workshops last between 2 and 2½ hours depending upon the timetable of your school. I have also adapted the workshops so that they are suitable for Special Needs students as well as G & T students.
There are several types of workshops:
Creating Characters – how to develop fully rounded characters from scratch
Making Writing Real – a sensory workshop designed to bring more depth and feeling into stories
Finding the Plot – plotting, conflict and resolution & self-editing
Unleash Your Creative Genius – a two day intensive for post AS Level students and/or staff which includes all of the above – and more!
If you’re interested in any of these events, please get in touch via the contact page. I’ll be happy to send you more information.
Please note, I live in east London and all prices quoted in my brochures are based on travelling from home and, in some cases, overnight accommodation might be necessary. It is sometimes worth getting together with other schools in your area and sharing travel/accommodation costs.
